Artwork Title: Georgia O’Keeffe

Georgia O’Keeffe

Alfred Stieglitz

Circa 1930-31 In the 1930s, O’Keeffe often tucked her braided hair under a close-fitting, knitted cap, extending the silhouette of her clothed body to the top of her head. This allowed Stieglitz to picture her neck and head as emerging from the deep V of her neckline, like the streamlined form of a sculpture by Constantin Brancusi. This photograph also captured two little details typical of her style; a tiny bow on an undergarment at the bottom of the V, and a row of pearl buttons at her wrist.
