Small Purple Hills1934 by Georgia O'Keeffe

Red Hill Form - Bad Lands, New Mexico.

In 1934, O'Keeffe visited Ghost Ranch in New Mexico for the first time, and the stunning landscapes provided new inspiration for the artist’s work. O’Keeffe painted Small Purple Hills in response to her new environment. She likely began the painting outdoors but completed it in the studio, allowing her memory and feeling of the site to co-mingle with her original experience of it.
