Dakuwaqa

Owen Davey

In Fijian folklore, Dakuwaqa is a half-man, half-shark god that protects fishermen while at sea. The legend has it that he once tried to conquer an island, but was confronted by an octopus goddess who grabbed Dakuwaqa with her many arms and squeezed him very tight. Defeated, Dakuwaqa begged for his life and promised to become the protector of the surrounding waters instead.
