Montauk, New York, 2017

Teagan White

Part one of a triptych for The VACVVM "V1" group show. These are my interpretations of three different cryptids (animals or beings whose existence is disputed or rejected by biologists, but have been cataloged in the folkloric record through rumors, sightings, and anecdotal accounts). The Montauk Monster: The name given to an animal carcass that washed ashore and was captured in a photograph before the body mysteriously disappeared; though many possible identifications of the creature have been proposed, the corpse is pretty obviously just a raccoon. Gouache & watercolor on paper with metallic gold gouache accents.
