Artwork Title: Self Portrait,

Self Portrait,, 1926

Anton Josef Trčka (Antios)

This self portrait by Trčka is a rare vintage print, signed on the negative and inspired by Egon Schiele. Trcka's images of the artist taken after 1914 all show the expressionist painter in an unusual composition and with his hands always on prominent display. It is also remarkable how Trčka brings his signature, his own figure, and their pictorial environment into an relation on the picture field: Comparable to old Renaissance-paintings, for instance Dürer's famous self-portraits, he placed his signature "ANTIOS" close to his head; additionally he drew a bird into the background on the negative. These calculated manipulations of the image form a very interesting, artistic self-portrait. (http://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/selbstportrat-self-portrait-by-anton-josef-tr-1009-c-d1dbcf6f34)
