Kate Moss (Original Color Way), 2005

Banksy

27.5 x 27.5 In Kate Moss (Original Color Way) Edition of 50 [https://guyhepner.com/product/blue-kate-moss-by-banksy/] Banksy - Kate This is another portrait that simply could not fail (although it is not a painting in a classical sense). It represents one of the most popular art muses since Marilyn Monroe, in a way in which Monroe herself was represented a few decades earlier, by the outrageously famous pop artist Andy Warhol. And all of this is done by one of the most popular people in the world. After the initial stencil, made in 2005, a great number of prints was made, each representing the beloved British top model Kate Moss, depicted in varying, psychedelic hues. You can only imagine how much the piece is worth currently, but if you’d like to check, you can always go to Banksy’s auction page. Living in a time where critical consumerism is an integral part of an urban lifestyle, the world of Banksy’s consumer-criticizing artwork has undoubtedly left a permanent mark across the globe. His satirical work with messages that appeal to the masses have created a massive amount of interest in this mysterious artist every time he hits the “canvas”. As Banksy has maintained his shroud of anonymity, his real prints have become a global commodity. One set of Kate Moss paintings sold in Sotheby’s London, setting an auction record for Banksy’s work. Signed and framed on screen print, Kate Moss by Banksy was created by the artist in 2011 while the world-renowned supermodel was on her honeymoon. The special work was a surprise for the model, which was showcased in her bathroom. A huge fan of his work, Kate Moss has been described as one of the most recognizable faces of her time, appearing on over 300 magazine covers. The Kate Moss Collection by Banksy is based on Andy Warhol’s iconic Marilyn Series, appropriates this supermodels’ visage. In a contemporary take on Warhol’s Pop masterpiece, Banksy has superimposed Monroe’s hair onto a gray-scale image of Moss, then stained the portrait with an array of vibrant colors. Banksy says, “even my well-receipted radical punk-ass got sold on auctions, but as long as walls eat my graffiti people buy my art and I keep getting more famous.” It’s nothing more then the best pop-art artists like Andy Warhol have created for us: a post-consumer consumer-culture built on it’s own ironic icons. [https://guyhepner.com/kate-moss-by-banksy/] Of all the Banksy prints released, Kate Moss is ranked as one of the most desirable for it has consistently seen the highest auction records for Banksy prints. ‘Kate Moss’ comes in two editions, starting with the original version an edition of 50. This was followed by the colourways edition, a set of 6 varied colour combinations, of which 20 of each were made; making it 120 prints in total, for this edition. (There are a further 12 Artist’s Proofs of the colourways edition, and 5 of the original colour edition on canvas.) All pieces are signed.
