The poppy is a deeply symbolic flower, but for me this study reflects the great beauty and contrasts of the poppy. Those sinewy stalks holding heavy flower heads nodding gently in agreeance with their surrounds. The flamboyance of those petals, the softness of the buds, bowing, waiting, marking time. The work is equal parts drama and harmony. It exudes a balance of contrasting reds and greens, of patience and urgency, of boldness and fragility, submission and power, confidence and perfect beauty.
