Rear View from Stadhouderskade 136b in Amsterdam (I), 1956

Coen Van Oven

Through the window, of which the frame and the laths can be seen, one can see the back of the houses on the Hemonystraat and opposite the front of the houses on the other side. Behind it the Willibrorduskerk Buiten de Veste which was on the edge of the Pijp near the Amstel. This church was built at the end of the 19th century but was demolished less than a century later (end of the seventies of the 20th century) due to its dilapidation. In the room you can still see chairs and a table. [Google translation of http://stichtingcoenvanoven.nl/werken/achteruitzicht-van-stadhouderskade-136b-1956/]
