“Better Living Thru Chemistry” is a series of greatly enlarged, brightly colored glass and mixed media capsules embossed with text messages inspired in equal parts by the insidious presence of social media in contemporary culture, and the simultaneous rise of direct - to - consumer pharmaceutical market- ing. With a nod to the 1960’s Dow Chemical advertising campaign, the work pokes fun at the alternately amusing and depressing correlations between the two phenomena as both are employed to over-simplify the human condition and expedite contentment. With titles like “IMHO” (In My Humble Opinion) and”((H))” (Big Hug), the work calls attention to the absurdity of expressing such things in 140 character messages composed in a format that does even not lend itself to the use of punctuation let alone heart-felt sentiment.

New York–based artist Edie Nadelhaft was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Penn- sylvania. The daughter of a physicist and an American literary scholar, Ms. Nadelhaft studied painting and art history at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (1991-92), and received her BFA with honors (painting) from The Massachusetts College of Art & Design (1995). Recent exhibitions include Two Coats of Paint (NYC 2012), Corridor Gallery (NYC 2011), SCOPE (Miami 2010) and emerge Art Fair (2012).

Currently her paintings and sculpture are being exhibited in Beijing, China. Her work is included in the permanent collections of The University of New Mexico (Albuquerque, NM) and Falconworks Theatre for Social Change, (Red Hook, NY), and has been written about in the New York Times, Flavor Pill and Chronogram Magazine. In addition to her career as a fine artist, Ms. Nadelhaft is an accom- plished branding and user-interface designer whose work has been widely published online. She is an avid motorcyclist, a fact that deeply informs her visual perception and perspective on morality.
