Artwork Title: I See Again in Memory My Dear Udnie

I See Again in Memory My Dear Udnie, 1914

Francis Picabia

"...Picabia drew on his memories of a dancer for this painting.... Picabia had been captivated by the movement of Stacia Napierkowska, a Polish dancer en route to a tour of American music halls. (Her performances were suggestive enough to provoke her arrest once on U.S. shores.) Over the next 2 years, Picabia produced several monumental canvases that he said were inspired by his memories of Napierkowska..." Possibly begun 1913. http://www.moma.org/collection/object.php?object_id=78348
