Morticulture

Marisa Seguin

When I read about this show, my mind immediately drifted back to the forests of the Pacific Northwest where I grew up. Quite often in these forests, you will happen upon fallen trees teeming with life. These nurse logs are usually draped with moss, sprouting ferns and all other manner of greenery, and host to myriad forms of mycological growth. Many times, there are even new trees growing around the old stumps and logs, wrapping their roots around the shape of the fallen tree in beautiful sculptural displays. The decay of the old tree feeds the new life and fuels the cycle of life of the forest.
