The first Polish artist who adopted Impressionism was Olga Boznanska who was born in Krakow. As a young girl, Olga’s first drawing teacher was her mother, however, as her talent grew so did the prestige of her trainers. After moving to Munich, she studied under Jozef Brandt and became a well known artist in the Munich circle, opening her own studio and even taking over management of the Painting School from Teodor Hummel in 1895. During her art education, she included in her portraits of women many of the props of the day - Japonisme, fans, parasols, and kimonos. ...In 1900, at the exhibition in New Gallery she was awarded the golden medal. The French government bought Bretonka and Miss Dygat portrait for the national collection. She also became a member of Société Nationale des Beaux Arts.
