De schilderijenliefhebber (The Art Lover)1878 by Pieter Oyens

Some museum visitors look like this. Leaning forward with their nose almost touching a painting. Pieter Oyens has captured the man beautifully: the real art lover. The Oyens brothers had an eye for the "ordinary" that radiated a "joie de vivre". They were certainly satisfied with this "sujet", as they called such a painting. This one was sent to the World Exhibition in Paris (1878).
