Rainer Elstermann

Rainer Elstermann first became seriously involved with photography in 1984 while working with the experimental art and film collective Teufelsberg Filmproduktion in West Berlin. After moving to London to focus on his first art projects in 1987, Rainer eventually returned to Berlin and established his own studio in 2000. While producing award-winning commercials, his main focus continues to be conceptual art photography. A central theme in his artwork is the imaginative possibility of the “Photographic Studio”— an otherworldly zone of creativity and a technical neverworld, in which images are sensed and imagined into existence. Fantasy reigns! It should come as no surprise that such an exalted view of a photography studio should culminate in incredible photographic theater that demands widely varied attention.
