Artwork Title: Black Hole / Devourer

Black Hole / Devourer, 2015

Rovina Cai

Drain of Resources - Dangerous Undercurrents Black holes are the universe’s most selfish entities. With such a strong gravitational pull that even the smallest particle can’t escape, they have insatiable hunger, pulling everything into their central void. The Black Hole’s symbolism is strongest in relationships where one party begins to consume the energy, resources, or time from another with no intention of stopping. The Black Hole is unable to give back; it can only collect. It is a hoarder with an indistinguishable method behind its consumption. Upright, this card may manifest itself in any number of ways, from annoying projects that won’t end, to writer’s block, or a family feud that resurfaces each holiday. Occasionally these annoyances help provide perspective, regardless of the inconvenience. Reversed, this card warns one of an entity to avoid at all costs. Be on the look-out for scams, financial burdens or relationships that take without giving back. In the case of the reversed Black Hole card, these entities are a bit harder to shake than the upright manifestations. In any case, the Black Hole is a reminder that there are individuals and situations that do not care if they drain people of all they have if they get too close.
