Artwork Title: Portrait of Eugene Lanceray in a Shako

Portrait of Eugene Lanceray in a Shako, 1915

Serebriakova

Serebriakova was one of the first Russian female artists who went down in history. To emphasize her significance and respect for her it is often said that she was “khudozhnik” (not the female version “khudozhnitca”) because she had her unique and independent manner. Valentin Serov recalled that when painting his famous “Girl with Peaches” his aim and thought was to achieve “freshness”. I think that this quality is completely expressed in Serebriakova’s art. Serebriakova had very easy style and incredible sense of colors. She cooperated with “Mir iskusstva” (World of Art) and later staged a lot of personal exhibitions. Eugene Lanceray depicted in this portrait was her brother. [https://russian-style.tumblr.com/post/115323668499/alexander-golovin-portrait-of-mikhail[]
