$322 Million Can Of Coke: World’s Most Controversial Work Of Art Dutch artists, the Tinker Brothers, are selling a can of coke for millions of dollars. They have made what’s arguably the most controversial artwork of the 21st century. The artwork “Can Of Coke” has hit the market with a record breaking selling price of $322 million. Tinker’s Can Of Coke, 2015, puts Gauguin’s When Will You Marry?, 1892, sold for $300 million earlier this year, and Cézanne’s The Card Players, 1895, sold for $250 million in 2011, in 2nd and 3rd place on the list of the world’s most expensive works of art. “If the purpose of man is to come up with rules by which to play the game of life”, they say, “the purpose of art is to break them.” Their latest work is a comment on the self-limiting beliefs of modern society: “Yes, it’s just a can of coke, and we are selling it for millions. It’s time for you to wake up.” Whether to consider this can of coke a work of genius or complete madness, these new kids on the block are shaking up the art world.
