Artwork Title: A Musician Charms a Mrig (Antelope)

A Musician Charms a Mrig (Antelope), 1825

Unknown

In the foreground, a female musician sits before a hunting tower playing a sitar, while an antelope stands transfixed before her by the music. From the turret of the tower, Krishna gestures toward a leopard retreating over the horizon. The scene is in a typical Rajasthan rocky landscape filled with stunted trees, a favored setting for Kota court paintings. http://www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/view?exhibitionId=%7bF07384C7-2595-4B5C-81DF-EA3282869020%7d&oid=54184&pkgids=258&pg=1&rpp=30&pos=1&ft=*
