Pectoral with Birds Flanking an Ukh Symbol, ca-1802 B.C, 1981

Unknown

"Pectorals with symmetrical designs, which seem to have arisen in the mid-12th Dynasty, belonged to members of the elite as well as the royal family. At the center of this pectoral is an ukh fetish sacred to the goddess Hathor. It is flanked by 2 birds that sit on hieroglyphs signifying gold. The precise meaning of this combination of elements is uncertain." http://www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/view?exhibitionId={36BFD863-BD71-4D58-B1B2-F3F865084DBB}&oid=591375&pkgids=331&pg=4&rpp=20&pos=79&ft=*
